It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mamie on January 23, 2014.
She was the daughter of the late Puis and Elizabeth (Walsh) Pero.
Mamie was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 8, Sydney Mines where she held many offices and served as Honour Guard. In the past she was a member of Top N.S. 2666 Florence, she also enjoyed darts and bowling on Monday nights at the Strand Ally’s and also enjoyed doing crafts and could always be seen with a pair of knitting needles in hand.
She is survived by her children Ronald (Donna) Blackrock, Elizabeth Bungay, Florence, Bernice (Billy) Holloway, Florence, Kevin (Carol), Baddeck and Charlene (Joseph) MacDouggall, Sydney Mines. She is also survived by sisters Zola (Gregory) MacIntosh, Ontario, Audrey MacLeod (John D), Big Bras D’or, Sheila (Ron), Lyle, Florence. Brothers, Langelle (Flo) Pero, Florence, James (Patsy) Pero, Alder Point. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, special friend Hilty MacInnis and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mamie was predeceased by her husband Charles; daughters Bertha Donovan and Corrine in infancy; grandson Tony Cousins; brother Clarence, St. John’s, NFLD and sisters Edna Simms (Bernard) Guelph, Ont and Colleen Chapman and two brothers in infancy.
Visitation for Mamie will be held on Sunday January 26, 2014 in Fillmore and Whitman funeral Home 10 Clyde Ave. Sydney Mines, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11a.m., January 27, 2014 in Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Stacey LeMoine officiating. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 8, Sydney Mines. Burial at later date.
