It is with great sadness that we the family announce the sudden passing of Joseph Augustus 'Gussie' MacNeil on January 23, 2014, at home.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Alex J. and Catherine (Brown) MacNeil.
He was employed with Modern City Dairy and Scotsburn Dairy Sydney for 35 years. Gussie was a member of St Anthony's Parish. He was at one time president of the parish counsil, and a eucharistic minister. He also belonged to the Carmelites.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Beverly (MacMullin). Daughters - Cheryl MacDonald (Dan) and Lynette Cathcart (Blaine) of Glace Bay. Sons- Ron (Karen) Newfoundland and Trevor (Ella) Kentville N.S. Brother - Francis (Baker) MacNeil. 10 Grandchildren - Chad (Holly) MacDonald NewBrunswick, Alicia (Ray) MacDonald-Boetang Sydney, Taylor and Brett MacDonald Glace Bay, Brooke and Camryn MacNeil Kentville, Crystal (Darcy) Lafortaine and Cory MacNeil Sudbury Ont, Conor and Caitlin MacNeil Newfoundland. Six wonderful great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was lovingly referred to as “Foddy’.
Gussie was predeceased by brothers Roddie, Joe, Mike, Ronald, and Terrence. Sisters - Lily, Margaret, Rita, Teresa, Mary, and two infant sisters.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay, with father Norman MacPhee Officiating.
