Gladys Winnifred Mayo of Lafleche, SK passed peacefully to the Kingdom of Heaven on January 3, 2014, at the age of 95 years. Gladys was born on June 27, 1918 to John and Elizabeth (nee Ibbitson) Elliott. She grew up in the Harold School district, eight miles north of Hazenmore. Gladys married Frank Mayo on April 20, 1938 and they were blessed with one son, Glenn, on July 12, 1943. They made their home in Hazenmore, and in 1949 moved to Kincaid. There, Gladys operated a lunchroom for three years. She also worked as a clerk in the William’s Bros. Store and Debert’s Store until the late 1970’s. Gladys also opened her home to many boarders over the years. In 1981, Gladys was ordained as a minister in the Apostolic Church of Pentecost. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, Happy Bible Hour, Christian Education, and Bible Study. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Gladys will be reunited with her loving husband Frank “Sammy” Mayo (1965); parents John Elliott (1963) and Elizabeth (nee Ibbittson) Elliott (1974); brother Lloyd Elliott (1990); great granddaughter Jaycena Mann (2009); brother-in-law Stanley Bell (2013). She is survived by her sister Iris Bell of Coquitlam, B.C., and leaves her memory and legacy of God’s love with her only son Glenn, his wife Diane of Hazenmore, SK, and her four grandchildren and their families: George (Sonya) Mayo and their children Janelle, Shantelle, Justyne and Krystine; Jerry (Tessa) and their boys Derrick and Brandon Flannery; Leanne (Richard) Mann and their son Jordan; and Jenny Mayo. A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., at Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapel, Gravelbourg, SK. Presiding the service was Rev. Willard Mitchell of Eston, SK. Reader was Justyne Mayo. Music by Leanne Mann. The eulogy was shared by Jenny Mayo. Pallbearers were George Mayo, Jerry Mayo, Richard Mann and Donald Robertson. Interment took place at the Kincaid Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Gladys to the Lafleche & District Health Centre Fund, Box 250, Lafleche, SK S0H 2K0, were greatly appreciated.
