It is with great sadness and love that the family of Mary Matilda (Meade) White announce the passing of their wonderful mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend.
She passed away at her home peacefully on Jan. 26, 2014.
Mary has been a longtime resident of Nolan’s Lane Seniors Complex. She worked at St. Anne’s Convent for 16 years and then devoted the rest of her life to her children and her ever expanding family. The children were the “light of her life”. She loved to bake and would always bake their favourite oatmeal cookies, earning her the title of “Cookie Nannie”.
Mary was a devoted Christian all her life. She was a member of Epworth United Church until its closure and then Knox United Church. Mary was an inspiring person who touched the lives of all who knew her.
She was the daughter of Simon Meade and Irene (Manuel) Meade.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bob, her son, Robert, sisters, Evelyn, Irene,brothers, Santford, Churchill, Douglas and Sidney.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Irene Hobson; sisters, Kay Roffey-Dampier, Ronlana McDonald, Ina Castilloux and Sonja Coulas, all residing in Ontario. Also surviving are daughter-in-law, Lorraine White; four grandchildren, Bob White, Laurie (Shawn) Cole, Leslie White, Troy (Tania) White; 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, all residing in Glace Bay. Also left to mourn are numerous nieces, nephews and her longtime friends, Valerie and Mim.
Funeral service for Mary will be held at Knox United Church on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Finlayson officiating and under the direction of Patten Funeral Home. We welcome you to join us in celebrating her life. Interment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Knox United Church or to a charity of choice.
