PHILLIPS, DOREEN - The family of Doreen Myra Phillips (Dunlap), of Lincoln, NB, sadly announce her passing on January 29, 2014 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born in Fredericton on November 2, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Lena Viola (McKay) and John Leaman Dunlap of Fredericton, NB. Along with spending time with her family and friends Doreen was an avid fan of NASCAR and the races at the Geary Speedway. In her spare time she loved to dance, go shopping, and throughout her life crocheted many beautiful blankets. Doreen was a social butterfly who loved hairdressing and redecorating her house. She was kind and caring of all animals, especially dogs. Doreen had a great appreciation for all things pretty and beautiful, but above all she treasured her four sons. Doreen is survived by her sister Bobby (Bob) Richard, Fredericton, NB and her brothers William John (Jack) (Theresa) Dunlap, Fredericton, NB and Wayne Henry Dunlap, Vancouver, BC, her sons Noel (Gwen), Elkford, BC, Randy (Judy),Hammond River, NB and Allan (Wink), Lincoln, NB; her grandchildren; Carrie (Mike) Kieser, Calgary, AB, Acel Jesse Phillips, Bridgetown, NS, Kelsey Phillips, Calgary, AB, Cullen Phillips, Halifax, NS, Vanessa (Scott) Hocquard, Greenwood, NS, Jeremy (Erin) Phillips, Etobicoke, ON, Nicole (Joey) LaMacchia, Sound Beach, NY, and Courtney Phillips, Fredericton, NB. Also, her great-grandchildren; Julian Tate and Owen Kieser, Calgary, AB, Mythandrea Phillips, Bridgetown, NS, Maya and Oliver Hocquard, Greenwood, NS, Zoe Phillips, Etobicoke, ON, Joseph, Dominic, Gabriel and Luke LaMacchia, Sound Beach, NY, Kyle Svendsen, Fredericton, NB, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Robert Gordon, son Acel Dale, infant sister Jacqueline, brother Arthur Donald and half-brother Clarke Curtis.
Visitation will take place at Bishop’s Funeral Home, Woodstock Road on Monday February 3, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A memorial service will take place at Bishop’s Funeral Home, Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 11:00 am with Rev. Walter Williams officiating. Interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery, Field of Honour, at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family aska that donations be made to the Oromocto Public Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, 103 Winnebego Street, Oromocto, NB E2V 1C6 or a charity of the donor’s choice. A heartfelt thank-you goes out to her doctors, Dr. Fraser, Dr. Sainz and her social worker Nora Watson, the wonderful, caring nursing staff of 1 Medical Unit and the Palliative Care Unit at the Oromocto Hospital. You are the unsung heroes who continue to go above and beyond the call of duty each and every day to help make this process easier to navigate, both for the family and the patient.
