CARR, MYRTLE - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Myrtle Jean (Smith) Carr, formerly of Geary, NB, on February 9th, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on February 13th, 1924 in Waterville, Sunbury County to the late Chesley and Ivey (Nason) Smith. She was the wife of the late Ray Z. Carr. Myrtle touched a lot of people’s lives in her lifetime. She was a quiet and gentle soul with a big heart and loved doing things for others. She was an excellent cook, especially her dinner rolls, molasses cookies, and coconut cream pie. A member of Waterville Baptist Church serving as treasurer and clerk at the time, and also belonged to Women’s Missionary of Waterville, Geary, and French Lake. As her health declined, she was no longer able to attend church. A lover of nature, flowers, and animals, especially dogs, her bosom pal Molly, a golden retriever, was her passion. She was a former school teacher, teaching in one room schools with 38-40 pupils, later a DND employee at Base Supply in the Procurement Department. She was an avid bowler, being a member of the Kingswood Lunch Club. Myrtle was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Including her parents, Myrtle was predeceased by her husband, Ray; brothers, Gerald and Chesley; special nephews, Brian Smith and Wayne Carr. Myrtle is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 11th, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held at the Geary Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 12th, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Greg Sparkes will officiate with Rev. Steve Ranni assisting. Interment will take place at a later date in the Old Waterville Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in Myrtles memory can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
