REID, AUDREY (ESTABROOKS) - February 8, 1932 - February 9, 2014 - Charlottetown, PEI - It is with sadness, but peace of heart, that the family of Audrey Geneva Reid announce her passing at the Beach Grove Home in Charlottetown, on Sunday, February 9, 2014. Audrey was 82 years of age. Born on February 8, 1932 in Sackville, N.B., Audrey was the daughter of the late Abner and Bertha (Turner) Estabrooks. Audrey was born and raised in Sackville, N.B. After graduating from Sackville High School in 1949, Audrey attended N.B. Teacher’s College in Fredericton, N.B. for one year and spent two years at Mount Allison University. She taught elementary school in Moncton, Sackville and Montreal before moving to Prince Edward Island with her family in 1965. She loved “The Island”, although she never became an Islander and two of her grandchildren were born in Charlottetown. Audrey enjoyed many crafts, including knitting, crocheting and quilting and she and Rufus spent many happy years of their retirement travelling by motor home and other means. She served on the boards of the PEI Protestant Family Services and the PEI Humane Society. Regretfully, she bravely endured poor health in her later years. Audrey will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, Rufus Reid of Charlottetown, PEI; two sons, Michael (Ellen) Reid of DeSable, PEI and Rick Reid of Sackville, N.B.; one daughter, Kim (Ken) Godfrey of Charlottetown, PEI; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Audrey was predeceased by her two brothers, Raymond and Arnold Estabrooks.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). In keeping with Audrey’s wishes, there will be no visiting hours. The funeral service will be held at Campbell’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 2 pm with Pastor Andrew Swanson officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in the Sackville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Audrey may be made to the Moncton or Charlottetown SPCA, Main Street Baptist Church or to the charity of one’s choice. www.campbellsfuneralhome.com
