It is with profound sorrow that the family announces the passing of Donald Francis Ley at 67 years.
Born in Sydney, Donnie was the son of the late Bernard and Marion (Burt).
Loving father of Daryn (Amanda) and Jennifer (Alain Henry) of Sudbury, Ont. Beloved Papa Ocean to Emily, Tori, Ethan, Kendra, Ryker and Haven. Cherished brother of Myrna (Pat Delaney), William (Alice), Diane MacInnis, Florence (Frank Sampson), Debbie (Dave Mullins) and Brian (Tonya). Loving companion to Sandra Evely.
Besides his parents, Donnie was predeceased by sister Evelyn Oakley and brother Gordie.
He was retired from Inco in Sudbury where he worked as a hoisting engineer for 30 years before the ocean called him back home. Donnie touched the lives of everyone he knew with his selfless nature. He had a wicked sense of humour that warmed hearts. Donnie also had a VW Westvalia that was to take him all over the country. After tirelessly working to repair the travel van, Donnie got the vehicle humming along at a whopping 75ft/gallon. For anyone looking for a travel van with lots of expensive new parts, Donnie’s can be found at the bottom of the Sydney River.
A celebration of Donnie’s life will be held at SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or donations, his children would like you to consider supporting a new album by his nephew Keith Mullins that will be dedicated to Donnie’s memory. Donnie was forever proud of how a love and talent for music brought his family together. From his parents, to his siblings, to his nieces, nephews and children, music has always been the heart and soul of the family.
The family would like to thank Dr. S. Haleem and the wonderful staff in Palliative Care at CBRH for the comfort and support they provided Donnie at the end of his life.
