Calvin "Arnold" Pederson

Passed on: February 2nd, 2014

Calvin “Arnold” Pederson
Arnold passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 89 years. He was born in the Bromhead area on October 17, 1924, the youngest child of Ole and Emma Pederson and was predeceased by brothers; Orville (Evelyn), Harold (Ruth), Henry (Della) and brother-in-law Ole Hansen as well as nieces and nephews and a very close friend, Mae McNammee. He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Hansen and numerous nieces and nephews. Arnold received his education at Flaata School and Rumford School. He worked at the store and post office in Beaubier and later at the Souris Valley Regional Hospital. In 1957 Arnold moved to Moose Jaw and worked at the Moose Jaw Saskatchewan Training School in the laundry area until his retirement. Arnold owned farmland in the Torquay area and would come and help with seeding and harvesting every year. Arnold travelled to many parts of the world to attend 25 Silver Brooms. As well he enjoyed various other curling events and developed many long term friendships. Arnold lived in Moose Jaw for about 50 years in various houses. During that time he collected clocks, there were more than 100 clocks in his home. The top of the hour was filled with sound. Arnold moved from Moose Jaw in September, 2007 to Crocus Villa in Weyburn, a home which was shared with his brother, Harold. January, 2012 brought a move to Tatagwa View. During those years Arnold developed a very close bond with his sister, Evelyn. Arnold had a great sense of humor. He often could be heard saying, when one of his nieces visited, “How’s my favorite niece…or haven’t you seen her today”. Of course we all thought we were his favorite. He also had a very good memory for events and people and could always be counted on to remember names, dates and relationships. He will be lovingly remembered for his friendliness, his caring, and his love of family. A special thank you to the nurses and staff at Crocus Villa and Tatagwa View for the compassionate care and kindness they extended to Arnold. Arnold will be missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing him, but most of all by his loving family. A Funeral Service was held from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 11:00AM with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Interment followed in Lac Qui Parle Cemetery, Bromhead, Saskatchewan. Donations in memory of Arnold may be made to the Lac Qui Parle Cemetery Fund or to charity of your choice.
