JONES, FLOYD WILSON - Floyd “Spike” Wilson Jones passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014, after a courageous battle with asbestos related cancer. He was born on October 5, 1942 in Fredericton, NB; the oldest son of the late Gwen and Wilson Jones. Floyd spent most of his working life with the Federal Government in Halifax and Fredericton. Following his retirement, he kept himself busy by working in Forestry and as a Skills Training Consultant in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland / Labrador. Most recently he worked in construction in Fredericton. Floyd was never happier than when outdoors no matter the time of year. Among his many pursuits, were cross country skiing, kayaking, canoeing and traveling, ideally enjoying these activities with family and friends. Floyd was proud of his Welsh ancestry on both sides of his family and was a long time board member of the Welsh Heritage Trust, overseeing the Cardigan Church. He would like to thank, Dr. Debra Gowan, Dr. Phillip Bock, the DECRH Oncology nurses, the extra mural nurses and his many friends and family members for their great care and kindness over the last few months. In addition to his wife Helen, Floyd is survived by his son, Andrew (Joanna) of Halifax, NS; daughter, Stephanie of Fredericton, NB; granddaughters, Anna and Carys Jones; sister, Ardyth Moore (Bill Keating); brother, Larry Jones; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church (old church), 75 Main Street on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 2 pm with Rev. Canon Bill MacMullin officiating. Interment will take place at the St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church Cemetery, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Floyd asked that donations be made to World Vision Canada, the Cardigan Heritage Trust or the charity of the donor’s choice.
