SWEENEY, MURIEL AUDREY - With her daughter at her side, the death of Audrey Sweeney occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, February 16, 2014. She was born on October 4, 1922 in Saint John to the late William Arthur and Florence Walker (Kinsman) Turner. Audrey was a graduate of Saint John High School in 1939 and Vocational School in 1940 with a secretarial diploma. Among other careers, Audrey worked for Dept. of Transport (Coast Guard) as a purchasing agent before her retirement in 1976. She had a great love for sailing and cruising on the Kennebecasis and St. John rivers and you would find her sailing most nice days on her sail boat "Malabeam" up until her 90th year. She was a member of the Royal Kennebeccasis Yacht Club for 70 years and Honorary Commodore for 9 years. Audrey also enjoyed downhill skiing at Poley Mt. and was a member of St. John Baptist (Mission Church) & St. Clement. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Sweeney (John) of Saint John.
Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 2:00pm. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a reception at the Royal Kennebeccasis Yacht Club on Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00pm.
