It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Edna Helen Shand which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, February 19, 2014. Born 1942 in Carleton Village, NS she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Mildred (Rogers) DeMings. Edna worked as a fish labourer for many years. She enjoyed playing games, especially cards. She loved going for walks and spending time with her family. Edna will be sadly missed by her daughter Tina Locke (Jeff) of Saint John; sons Peter Waybret of Barrington, NS, Jeff Waybret (Lori) of Shag Harbour, NS, Robert Waybret (Janet) of Bear Point, NS; brothers Malcolm DeMings (Jackie) of Truro, NS, Stanley DeMings (Betty) of Birchtown, NS, Terry DeMings (Beverley) of Gunning Cove, NS, Gerald DeMings (Maretta) of Calgary, AB; sisters Diane Acker (David) of Gunning Cove, NS, Elaine Collins (Fraser) of Truro, NS, Marilyn MacDonald (Garth) of Maitland, NS, Laverne Townsend (Carl) of Barrington Passage, NS; grandchildren Alan, Aaron, Megan, Brandon, Stephen, Ashleigh, Kelsey; great-grandchildren Emily, Ethan, Keira and Hannah as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, Edna was predeceased by her husband Douglas, brothers Earl and Danny and sisters Betty and Beverly. Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). As per Edna’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held in Shelburne County, NS at a later date. Donations in Edna’s memory may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
