Surrounded by her loving family, the death of Frances Stack, age 96, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Centre.
Born in Amherst, Frances was the daughter of the late Osborne and Daphne (Blanch) Smith.
Her early years were spent in Amherst and then Sydney, NS. In her twenties, Frances returned to Amherst to attend St. Charles Commercial School. She worked at Canada Car where she met her husband Barry. Frances enjoyed time at home with her three children, returning to work at Margolians in her later years. She was a dedicated member of the St. Charles/Nativity parishes and the CWL.
Frances was predeceased by her parents and husband. Her sister Eileen (Smith) MacNeil and brothers Jack, Gerald and Lloyd. Frances is survived by her brother Walter Smith of Antigonish, her daughters Patricia Smith and Anne Marie LeBlanc (Larry) of Fredericton, and her son Garry (Jane) Stack of Amherst. She has nine loving grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place with arrangements entrusted to Furlong Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). By request, there will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will take place at Holy Family Parish Church, Amherst, Father Vernon Driscoll officiating, on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 10 am. Burial will follow in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery.
Her family would like to sincerely thank the VON home support system, whose services allowed Frances to remain in her own home. Special thanks as well to the nursing staff and the palliative care unit of the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre (CRHCC). In lieu of flowers, donations in Frances's memory may be made to the VON of Cumberland County or the Palliative Care Unit of the CRHCC.
