THIBAULT (Saulnier), Elise Marie. Age 88 , passed away peacefully February 21, 2014, in Yarmouth Hospital while recuperating from a recent broken hip. She broke her hip a couple of years ago and that recovery really took its toll. Elise was born February 23, 1925, in Saulnierville to the late Jeremie and Elizabeth (Comeau) Saulnier. She had a busy, interesting life as a school teacher and student nurse. She met a United States sailor during the Second World War, James Edward Thibault, who she married on June 11, 1945 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Saulnierville, at age 20. They moved to United States and had five children, three boys, James Jr., Arnold and Paul, and two daughters, Jeanne Marie Garone and Denise Mason. They also had 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Elise is also survived by sisters, Nelida (Denis) Comeau and Ella (Herbert) Saulnier, and brother, Ernest Saulnier. She was predeceased by sisters, Sister Marguerite, Marie (Hubert) D’Eon; brothers, Eddie (Marie), Albert, Bernie (Vi), Nelson (Lucille) and Gerald (Yvonne). Her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren; helping them and their mothers from birth. She moved back to Nova Scotia in 1975 to be near her relatives. She lived in Mayflower, at the old Thibault homestead. She enjoyed doing crafts with Clare school children, planting and tending her garden and picking blueberries in the Mayflower fields. Visitation was held in Meteghan Funeral Home and the funeral service took place Wednesday, February 26, in Stella Maris Church, Meteghan, with burial in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Salmon River. Donations may be made to Yarmouth Regional Hospital, St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Salmon River or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
