It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of G. Marsh Fox, 80, of Amherst on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the QEII Health Science Centre, Infirmary Site, Halifax, NS.
Born May 20, 1933 in Fosterville, NB, Marsh was a son of the late George and Ada (Lounder) Fox.
He fought a lot of health battles throughout his life such as polio, tumor on the spine, depression, heart attack and prostate cancer, but he still maintained a positive spirit and a hearty laugh.
Marsh will be remembered for his many jokes and political discussions.
He had a great community spirit and was involved with many things in the town of Amherst.
He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Cumberland Health Care Foundation, after being involved for a decade in raising funds for the foundation.
Marsh loved politics and ran for the Cumberland North Riding. He was a past member of the Amherst Rotary Club and was a town Councillor and Deputy Mayor. Marsh was a long time insurance executive and worked for Douglas Rogers Insurance Ltd. He was also a campaign chairman for United Way. He was a past chairman as well as secretary of the Amherst Water Commission. Marsh was a faithful member of Christ Church, Amherst.
Marsh loved sports, but could not participate because of polio. However he faithfully attended the Amherst Rambler games and officiated at a Harlem Globe Trotters game. He will be greatly missed by all his coffee buddies at MacDonald’s.
Marsh was predeceased by his wife of thirty years, Audrey (Bird) Campbell; sister, Nancy Lou Wilson.
He leaves to mourn his loving partner, Pauline Parker, and his devoted dog, Molly; brother, Gary (Beth), Moncton their children, Ben, Shannon, Mark and Matthew; brother, David, Halifax;
Also left to mourn are his step children, Sharon (Ken) Burrill, and George (Carolyn) Campbell both of Calgary, AB and Barbara (Dean Thompson) Campbell, Nanaimo, BC; along with four step grandchildren, Charlene (Graeme) Smiley, Lynn (Craig) Renner, Fred (Kelly) Burrill all of Calgary and Dennis Eddy, Edmonton, AB; five step great grandchildren, Drew and Iain Smiley, Madeline Renner and Matthew and Rylan Burrill all of Calgary, AB.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst (667-9906).
A private service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marsh’s memory may be made to the Christ Church, L.A. Animal Shelter or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
