GOODWIN, William Herbert – age 84, of the Villa St. Joseph du Lac, passed away on February 25, 2014. Born in Yarmouth on May 25, 1929, he was a son to the late Daniel and Annie (Wagner) Goodwin. William was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family dearly and loved to brag about them to anyone who would listen. At an early age, he began working with his father building boats and later progressed into residential construction and renovations. In 1958, he took over his father’s contracting business with his own crew of men. As a well-respected contractor in the town of Yarmouth, he continued for 41 years in this profession until his retirement after which he helped his children with repairs and renovations to their homes. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards and reading non-fiction books. He was also one of the original charter members of the Kinsman Club and a volunteer firefighter with Naiad Company for 17 years. He is survived by his loving wife Helen (Thomas), Yarmouth; daughters, Sherri (Peter) Thomas, Coldbrook; Barbara (Jeff) Irving , Moncton, N.B; son, Dan (Lisa) Goodwin, Woodstock, N.S.; grandchildren, Nicole, Jonathan, Krystal, Ashley, Josh and Julia. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, George and Warren; sisters, Elizabeth “Libbet”, Alice, and Dorothy. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held on Friday February 28, 2014 from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial service was held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2 p.m. from Yarmouth North Baptist Church, Rev. Shawn Kehoe, Rev A.D. “Bill” Newell, and Rev. Jeff Irving officiated. Interment will be in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery in the Spring of 2014. Family flowers only please. Donations in Willy’s memory may be made to the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation, Yarmouth North Baptist Church, or the Loving Arms Humanitarian Medical Missions.
