Darlene Elizabeth (Fletcher) Harris

Darlene Elizabeth (Fletcher) Harris
On Sunday, February 23, 2014 I left my earthly abode to journey into the celestial beyond. Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January 2010. Born Decemeber 13, 1957 in Yarmouth, NS to the late Pamela Mary Elizabeth (Meekcoms) Fletcher and the late William Hubert Fletcher.
I graduated in 1978 from the Yarmouth School of Nursing, later receiving my BScN from St. F.X. University. Throughout my 32 years of nursing I worked several different nursing positions. These included the old Miller Hospital, Kentville, All Saints Hospital, Springhill and lastly with Continuing Care, Amherst.
I did nothing that should prompt accolades or praise, but I think I lived a good life.
Survived by my son, Cody David William (Katie Lynn Frederick) of Ottawa, a constant source of pride. I would have never thought it possible to love someone so much. I am so proud of him and his accomplishments, Also survived by my brother, William James Fletcher, Yarmouth, who always stands up for his principles.
I was very fortunate to have the best friends. Karen, my closest friend, trusted confidant, caregiver and traveling companion. An adventure was only ever a car drive away.
I remember Rosalee whom I knew for years, being a confidant. We saw many joys and hardships together over the years. Indeed she was like a second mother to Cody, when I worked shift work. It was her "beach buggy" that saw us clamber in for days at the beach. Rosalee was the only person I knew who could pack enough clothes for a family of four in a knapsack and still have room. Vicki, the fashion diva, who taught me you can never wear enough "bling" . I, in turn, taught her how to spell. Cathy, and her DQ ice cream cones while driving around town, and always able to find the silver lining. Lastly, Margaret with whom I lived for 4 years, while we saved money. We were the "Felix and Oscar" of roommates. We too, enjoyed car trips as well as stays at her college.
Also survived by Lilly, my silver miniature Schnauzer, always a source of love and independence .
Special thanks to the CEHHA Palliative Care Unit, Dr. C. Smith and the Truro Hospice Society.
No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held from Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 2 p.m. Rev. Donald Miller officiating. Reception to follow. Burial at a later date in the Hillside Cemetery, South Ohio, Yarmouth Co., N.S.
