Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Thursday, February 27, 2014, Mr. T. George Mercer of Bay Roberts, aged 94 years. Mr. Mercer was a Second World War Veteran, having served in the Royal Navy. Mr. Mercer served as Mayor of Bay Roberts for two four-year terms in the 1970s. The Town of Bay Roberts honored Mr. Mercer a few years ago by naming a road after him, George Mercer Drive. Predeceased by parents Alexander and Alfreda Mercer (nee Brown); sister Katie (Clarence) French, brothers: Harry (Greta) Mercer, Ralph Mercer; brother-in-law Allan Reid.
Leaving to mourn his wife Phyllis, sons Calvin, Neil and Phillip (Beverley) Mercer; daughters: Shirley (Gordon) Sheppard and Sandra (Terry) Barrett; grandchildren: David, Ryan, Terri-Lynn, Deanne (Kenny), Colleen (Andrew), Collette (Andrew); great grandchildren: Georgia and McKenna; sisters: Florence Reid and Phyllis (Bruce) Caravan; brother Chesley (Geraldine) Mercer; sister-in-law Ruby Mercer. Resting at Moore's Funeral Home, Bay Roberts with visitation on Saturday: 2 - 5 PM: 7 - 9 PM: Sunday: 2 - 5 PM: 7 - 9 PM: Monday: 10 - 12 Noon. Funeral Service to take place on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 2:00 PM from Grace United Church and Cemetery, Coley's Point. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace United Church, Coley's Point.
