Viola Peddle

Born: September 16th, 1934

Passed on: March 1st, 2014

Viola was born in Gambo NL to Charles and Delilah Sturge. She was raised with four siblings – Pearl, Joan, Cecil, and Doreen. After high school, Viola attended the NL Summer School and was employed as a school teacher in Seal Cove, Fortune Bay, and then in Little Heart’s Ease, Trinity Bay. It was in Little Heart’s Ease that she met and married Gideon Peddle. They began their family there and then moved to Clarenville in 1960 where they lived and worked and raised their five children. Viola worked in Clarenville for many years as a Cook and when she wasn’t busy with work, she was busy looking after the affairs of her family and being involved with the ministry of her church. Viola will always be known as a gentle, loving, caring lady who gave herself to others with sincere and outstanding service. Her first love was God and she lived out her faith consistently in front of her family, her friends, and her community. Viola was never idol. She loved to work with her hands, spend time reading and studying the Bible, and she loved to travel to be with her family and explore the world around her. Viola was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always put the needs of her family above her own. She is their hero and will be sadly missed by her sons Gordon (Yvonne), Don, Dennis (Sue), Wanda (Morris), and Shawn (Kerry) as well as by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On January 04 Viola was diagnosed with cancer and that illness took her earthly life on March 01. However, the life of Viola Peddle is not lost. The legacy of love and the integrity of her life lives on in the lives of her family and all who knew her. Her influence will never die. A service of celebration for Viola’s life on Monday, March 03, at 11:00 a.m. at The Salvation Army Church will be a time to honor her.
