LASKEY, GERTRUDE "TRUDY" - Her life journey at an end, Gertrude Althea “Trudy” Laskey slipped away peacefully, with loved ones at her side, on March 8, 2014. Born in Saint John on December 16, 1919, she was a daughter of Shirley Leroy Brown and Gertrude Elizabeth (Leeman) Brown and the wife of Raymond Laskey. Besides her parents and her husband she was also predeceased by her sister, Muriel, and her brothers James, Douglas, Kenneth and Truman. Surviving her to mourn their loss are her sister, Audrey McElligott of Alberta, her children David (Carolyn) of Darlings Island, NB, Bonnie Furyk of Ontario and Robert (Cathy) of Alberta, her grandchildren, Kelly Barrowcliffe, Jillian Parry (Chris), Amanda Barrowcliffe all of Ontario, Cameron Laskey (Michelle Stairs) of Saint John, NB and Tyler Laskey of Alberta and her great-grandchildren Tristan Cashel-Laskey of Amherst, NS, Daxon Laskey and Jude Laskey of Saint John, NB, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Trudy was recognized for her knitted contributions to the Guardian Angels. She was a long time member of Apohaqui Community Church and a member of the Legion in Sussex.
At Trudy’s request there will be no visitation or funeral. However, a memorial service to celebrate her life will be held later in the spring. The family wishes to thank the staff on 4B North and the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their care and compassion. In memory of Trudy donations to the S.J.R.H. Palliative Care Unit or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
