HALEY, Joseph Harvey “Sonny” – age 87, Villa St. Joseph-du-Lac, Dayton, formerly of Yarmouth, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014 in the Villa. Born November 12, 1926 in Chebogue, he was a son of the late Harvey and Celina (Muise) Haley. As a child, Sonny and his family moved to the south-end of Yarmouth where he proudly continued to live the majority of his life. Early-on in his life, Sonny worked aboard the local freighter, MV Mohawk, after which he worked the remainder of his working life as a fisherman, retiring from C. A. Denton Fisheries, aboard the MV C. A. Denton. Sonny loved playing cards, was an avid reader and a huge Toronto Blue Jays and Montreal Canadiens fan. He is survived by his loving son, Joey Haley (Karen Moulaison), Yarmouth, as well as by grandchildren, Chrissy Haley (Dave Muise) and Clarke Haley (Sherie Crosby), all of Yarmouth, as well as by great grandchildren, Justin Haley and Cassie Haley and step-great grandchildren, Cameron LeBlanc and Nadia Crosby, and a brother, Gordon (Bernice) Haley, Sand Beach. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Louise (Jacquard) Haley and sisters, Margaret Haley, Joyce O’Connell and Rose Burns. In accordance with Sonny’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium in Yarmouth and there was no visitation. A graveside memorial service and burial will be held on Saturday, May 17 at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth. The time will be posted on Huskilson’s Funeral Home website the week prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Villa for the care and concern they showed Sonny throughout his stay with them.
