It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Dorothy Mae Thompson, age 92, of Fort Lawrence, NS. Dorothy passed away peacefully at Gables Lodge on Friday, March 7, 2014.
Born in Point de Bute, NB, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Bonang) Trewin.
First and foremost, she was a homemaker. Dorothy worked at Barkers, Reitman's and the Department of Tourism. She was a member of Trinity St. Stephen's and the Women's Institute of Nova Scotia. Dorothy always maintained a keen interest in the activities of each and every family member. She shared a deep pride in their accomplishments.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Eleanor Thompson (Roy Steed), Halifax, Alberta Thompson, Toronto, ON; son, Keith (Beth), Amherst; sisters, Marjorie (Art) Parker, Stoney Creek,ON, Florence (Edmund) Kodis, Hamilton,ON; brother Robert of Edmonton, AB; five grandchildren Susan, Aaron, Melanie, David and Jonathan; great grandchildren, Emily, Matthew, Owen and Colin. The family would like to make special mention of Dorothy's nieces Mary Wiles and Nancy Heffel for their unwavering support.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Stanley; brothers Henry, Arthur, Douglas and Raymond; sister Daisy Payne.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service for Dorothy will be held at the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 2 pm, Rev. Carolyn McLeod officiating. Burial will take place in the Fort Lawrence Cemetery at a later date.
Those wishing to make a donation in Dorothy's memory may do so to the VON or the charity of your choice.
The family wish to thank the wonderful staff at Gables Lodge, especially on Lawrence Wing for the great love and care provided to Dorothy the past few years.
