Nancy Greenwood

Nancy Greenwood (nee Fyles), born in Moose Jaw, SK, May 29, 1917 as Annie Haidee Luceil, but known to all as Nancy, passed away at Moose Jaw Extendicare on March 17, 2014. Nancy spent a happy childhood with her parents, sisters and brother, friends and neighbours, at 1151 Stadacona St. West. She attended both William Grayson School and Central Collegiate. She married Earle Greenwood in 1939, and they lived for a time in Northern Ontario before returning to live in Moose Jaw. Being a devotee of Choral Music, she was a choir member at St. George’s Church, and later at Minto Church, becoming the director of senior and junior choirs. She enjoyed 22 years with the Moose Jaw Philharmonic Choir for Ladies, becoming President in 1959. She also directed the Sons and Daughters of the Pioneers Choir for 25 years. Happy summers included being C.G.I.T. Camp Director at Buena Vista, Camp Capernaum, Christopher Lake, and Lake Katepwa. As a member of Theatre 67, Nancy enjoyed being in the drama group, and won the “Best Supporting Actress” award for her role in “Hadrian VII”. An informative two years was spent with the Wilson McDonald Poetry Society, a fitting complement for her interest in books and music. Nancy’s favorite hobby was going for walks, exploring Moose Jaw, as she traversed most of the “dimpled” sidewalks of the city, enjoying the architecture and its parks. She held her husband Earle, daughter Nancy, and son Ron in high esteem, enjoying a happy family life. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Fyles, her husband Earle Greenwood, sisters Mary (Gord) Carty, Dora (Jack) Burnyeat, Dorthea “Doff” (Grant) Hall, and brother William (Mary) Fyles. She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Don) Oddie, son Ron (Corinne) Greenwood, grandchildren Jacob Oddie, Holly and Grant Greenwood, and many nieces and nephews. Nancy wanted to say a very special thank you to niece Kelly Carty and great-niece Kahina Meghezi, and nephew Blake Carty for their loving care. Nancy wished to thank all of her family, friends and acquaintances for years of good fellowship and a lifetime of good memories, with eternal love. The family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Moose Jaw Extendicare for their compassion and care of Mom during her time with them, and the staff at Parkview Funeral Chapel for their help with arrangements. There will be a visitation on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Parkview Funeral Chapel. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Rosedale Cemetery. If so desired, donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3.
