Patricia I. Canning

Canning, Patricia I. “Patsy” – 76, of Parrsboro passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in Parrsboro, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Mamie (Henwood) Canning. Patsy was a hard worker from very early in her life. She worked endless hours as a housekeeper and as an operator at the local telephone office, all while raising small children on her own. Following her marriage to Arley in 1970, she worked by his side to build their successful contracting business until their retirement in 1994. She was a project woman and record keeper. She maintained years of newspaper clippings into scrapbooks of local and important events. Patsy enjoyed the operation of her popular craft shop, “The Hobby House” for which she produced a variety of homemade crafts and sewing. She truly loved her children and grandchildren, always waiting on their next visit. A daily “cup of tea” with her sister Joan was always a highlight. Even through years of personal illness, “Mom” remained a pillar of strength to all who surrounded her. She was incredibly loved and will be sadly missed forever. She is survived by her children, David Johnson (Sherry), Mike Johnson (Cheryl), Arlene Canning (Kevin Wasson); Cindy Yorke (Chester); all of Parrsboro; 9 grandchildren, Stephen, Ryan and Megan Johnson; David, Trevor and Jessica Johnson; Christopher Logan; Kayla and Kristen Yorke; sisters, Lola Melanson (Eric), River Hebert; Joan Blue (David), Parrsboro; a brother, Ronald “Fibber” (Bev Taylor), Parrsboro; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Arley in 2008; a grandson, Jason; a brother, Arthur. Visitation 6-8 p.m. on Sunday [March 23, 2014] at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral 2 p.m. on Monday [March 24, 2014] at the Parrsboro Baptist Church, Pastor Douglas Lake officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.
