LINACY – Richard Gerald Hawley, 67, Linacy, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Inverness to the late Daniel and Mary Elizabeth (Cameron) Hawley, he was raised by the late Murdoch and Mary Cameron, his maternal grandparents. Richard was employed in shipping and receiving, and counter sales for various businesses, including, Canrep, Commercial Equipment and Canadian Tire. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going for walks and summer trips to Cape Breton.
Surviving are his wife and best friend, Inez (Smith); his sons, Stanley and James; sisters, Christene Dzienis, Petersburg, Ont.; Patricia Hawley, Stellarton; June (Neil) Mason, Thorburn; Mary Hawley, Westville; brothers, Cameron (Paula), Churchville; Roy, New Glasgow; mother-in-law, Rena Smith, Scotsburn; brother-in-law, Ivan (Terry) Smith, Scotch Hill; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Richard’s family wish to thank Dr. Aaron Smith, Dr. Gerry Farrell, Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit staff, the Pictou County VON, and especially thank their dear friend, Marcia Smeltzer.
