EUNICE BERNADETTE TAYLOR

EUNICE BERNADETTE TAYLOR

Sadly, yet with many fond memories, we announce the passing of Eunice Bernadette Taylor at Christenson Village in Gibsons, on Saturday, March 22, 2014.  Predeceased by Donald Taylor on August 15, 2010, her husband of 65 years, she will be greatly missed and always remembered by her children, Don (Shirley), Sue (Ed), Dave (Cheryl), Sally (Inno), Patricia and Dennis (Natalie); grandchildren Mark, Michael, Shawn, Andrea, Karla, Brendan, Amber, Scott and Emma; great-grandchildren Benjamin, Jade, Quinn, Claire, Maya, Elli, Autumn and Kate; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The youngest daughter and child of Irish Catholic parents, Eunice was born on July 8, 1923, grew up and was educated with her eight sisters and brothers in the small town of Walshestown near Mulingar, Ireland. At 18, she left home with her sister, Teresa, and spent from 1941 to 1946 in England working on city buses and in munitions factories to support the war effort. It was during this time that she met and married Donald, who was serving as an Officer in the RCAF.  She sailed to Canada as a war bride on the Queen Mary with her twin baby boys in 1946, settling in Saskatchewan until 1954. The family then moved to Kitimat where they resided for 23 years before moving to Roberts Creek in 1977 to enjoy retirement. Possessing a green thumb, Eunice created beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. During her time on the Sunshine Coast, she also worked as a home care worker and was active for many years with other parishioners in the Catholic Church in Gibsons, specifically with the choir and Catholic Women’s League. Eunice was a kind and gentle person who was well liked by all.
To celebrate Eunice’s life, a requiem mass followed by a social reception will take place at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church at 956 Gibsons Way in Gibsons on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 11:00am.
Special thanks to the warm and caring staff of Christenson Village where Eunice lived in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be forwarded to Good Samaritan Canada, Christenson Village, 585 Shaw Road, Gibsons, B.C. V0N 1V8.
