BRIDEAU, MARIE MELINA - Mrs. Marie Melina Brideau 102 years old of Saint John, NB, passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital with her family by her side on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Born in Rogersville on October 14, 1911 she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Marguerite (Bernard) Gionet. Marie was a member of the Arc-En-Ciel, Legion of Mary, The Catholic Women’s League of Canada and a former member of the CWL at the Cathedral. She was a long-time member of the Charismatic “Queen of Peace Prayer Group” at St. Peters, A long-time member of St. Rose Church and as well a long-time benefactor of Romero House Soup Kitchen. Marie is survived by five sons, Armand (Patricia) of Saint John, Roy (Joan) or Garnett Settlement, Donald (Yolande) of St. Paul Kent Co., Gerald (Jeannie) of Saint John and Rodney (Karen) of Peace River, Alberta; five daughters, Theresa Brideau of Saint John, Linda Doucet (Lawrence “Larry”) of Saint John, Delcia (Malcolm) Baxter of Baxters Corner, Brenda (Bob) Sommerville of Saint John and Patsy (Gary) March of Saint John; one adopted son from India Father John Kochichura (Vicar General of the Franciscan Friars); her brother Alphonse Gionet of Collette. She is also survived by 35 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Domitien “Domice” Brideau; four sisters and two brothers.
Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, NB, E2M 2L3. Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 7 to 9pm and Friday, March 28, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Rose of Lima Church with Father Gerry White officiating on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 9:00am. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
