Joseph Roméo Roy passed away peacefully on March 23, 2014, in Toronto, Ontario, in his 89th year. Beloved father of Eva (Doug), Peter (Mary) and René (Elizabeth), and proud grandfather of Cory, Jason, Candace, Lauren, André and Joanna and great grandchildren Emily, Niles and Charlie. Roméo had been married to Vivi Roy (née Bünger) for 37 years and remained friends with her until his death. Roméo was born January 24, 1926 in St. Fabien, Québec. He was the eldest of ten children and is survived by his sister Thérèse and brothers Maurice and Jean-Paul. Roméo was highly skilled in construction and engineering, having gained wide-ranging practical experience and formal qualifications spanning many decades. Roméo was also very handy in many construction trades and was happy to share his knowledge and to help out family and friends. When in his seventies, he used these skills to build and operate a golf course in Nova Scotia with his longtime friend and business partner Johann Leung, and developed a love for friends and colleagues in Pictou County. Roméo had a great sense of humour and world perspective that will be greatly missed. He had an irresistible and charming disposition. Roméo loved to travel and covered the globe from Peru to Africa, and Australia to Hong Kong. We already miss his constant smile, his laugh and his stories. A memorial service will be arranged in Rimouski, Québec later this spring. If desired, donations in memory of Roméo can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
