Eric Ledrew

LEDREW, ERIC - Allison, NB - Born in Toronto, ON August 30, 1960, Eric lived in Sheet Harbour NS until moving to Truro in 1974 with his family. Two years later, Eric would tell you, it was in Mr. Wilson’s history class where he met and fell in love with Shelley. He graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1985, was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1986 and began his law practice with Pink MacDonald Harding, Yarmouth, NS. Eric joined McInnes Cooper as an associate in the Litigation Department in 1988. He became a member of the Law Society of New Brunswick in 1992, and in 1997 he and Shelley moved to Moncton where Eric and Bernie Miller established McInnes Cooper’s first New Brunswick office. Eric was known for his pure enjoyment of books and stamps, scotch and history, law,
fine wine, family, friends and golden retrievers. Travel was important whether for a weekend or a month. Just to please Shelley, he dressed in costumes on every occasion for more than 30 years. Eric loved the outdoors and enjoyed kayaking, running, cycling, back packing, snow showing and cross country skiing. Fly fishing and the preservation of the Atlantic salmon became his passion after being introduced to the sport
by Terry Teed over a decade ago. Eric delighted in mentoring the newly initiated whether in a fishing pool, classroom or law office. Eric approached his disease with the same methodical fashion as he had prepared for a trial. For more than two years, as chemo led to surgery which led to radiation then targeted drug therapy through molecular profiling, Eric adjusted his focus, acceptance and game plan. Sadly on March 28, 2014, Eric failed to win the case. Eric will be deeply and sadly missed by his wife of almost 30 years, Shelley (nee Groves), Allison, NB, sister Bonita, Halifax, NS; in-laws Dr. Robert and Debbie Scovil,
Hubley, NS, Stephen and Janice Groves, Onslow, NS, as well as nieces Allyson Groves, Lyndsay and Alexandra Scovil and nephew Brady Groves. Eric was predeceased by grandparents Irvin and Gladys Fancy, mother Joan LeDrew and his three best friends, Golden Retrievers Elliott, Earle and Luke. Eric was a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Moncton Area Lawyers’ Association, the Moncton Northeast Construction Association, and was recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada for his construction law practice. He was a lecturer of Civil Trial Practice at Dalhousie Law School and chaired the Law Society of New Brunswick's Judicial Facility Committee. Eric was a Past President of Big Brothers -
Big Sisters of Dartmouth/Halifax and volunteered with the organization in Moncton. He was a member of the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce, the Miramichi Salmon Association and the St. Mary’s River Association.
There will be no visitation at the request of the family. A funeral service celebrating Eric’s life will be held at St. John’s United Church,
(corner of Alma St. and Victoria St.) Moncton NB on Saturday April 5, 2014 at 2:00PM with The Reverend Aaron Billard officiating. A reception will immediately follow at The 114 Alma City Club, 114 Alma Street, Moncton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Miramichi Salmon Association in Eric’s memory. Special thanks to Dr. P. Dubois, Dr. Linda LeBlanc, Dr. Mohmoud Abdelsalam and the Staff of the Oncology Clinic, Dr. Muhkerjee and the Staff of 6600, Dr. Searle and the
