ATKINSON, JAMES LEE - On Thursday, March 27, 2014, James L. Atkinson, loving husband for 56 years of Sandra (Smith) Atkinson, passed away unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB., he was a son of the late Arthur and Alice (McMennamin) Atkinson. Jim worked for many years as a telecommunications technician for Canadian Pacific Telegraph. He retired in 1991, but his passion for technology and computers continued for the rest of his life. He also enjoyed a lifelong love of hockey, woodworking, and fixing things. He spent many hours on projects - from building a toy car garage for his children to a cottage on the beloved shore of Washademoak Lake. A perfect weekend for Jim included Friday night at Vito’s and something sweet brought home from the nearest bakery, but he was happiest when he was surrounded by his family. Along with his wife Sandra, Jim is survived by brother John (Liz); sisters Ann and Gloria; sons Norman (Chantal) and Mike (Andrea); daughter Heather (Rob); grandchildren Alicia, Shala, Tom, and Maureen and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Nora and Mary.
Arrangements entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 31, 2014 from Fundy Funeral home Chapel at 2 pm. with interment at a later date.
