Rushton, Hazel Elizabeth (Murray) – 81, of Truro/Roslin went to Heaven on March 30, 2014 at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Hazel lovingly known as “Nan” was born in Roslin, Cumberland County on April 22, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Florence (Black) Murray. Hazel knit thousands of mittens and many were gifted and donated to children and adults in the Colchester area. She was an avid animal lover and rescued and fed many stray cats as well as enjoying six of her own. Hazel is survived by her daughters, Judy (Richard) Ross, Jane (Stewart) Matheson, both of Truro; son, Bradley, Truro; sister, Erma Rushton, Truro; brother, Douglas Murray, Kingston, N.S; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces, all of whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald; daughters, Rhonda (Owen) Totten, Margo in infancy; brothers, Vaughn, Angus; sister, Gladys Weatherby; son-in-law, Bob Marks; brother-in-law, Carl Rushton. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 2 from 7-9 pm; funeral service on Thursday, April 3 at 2 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Pastor Steve Adams, Pastor Doug Campbell and Pastor Ron Ruse officiating. Spring interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Oxford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lodge That Gives or the Colchester East Hants Hospice Society.
