Passed in: North Sydney
Passed on: March 30th, 2014

With broken hearts and deepest regret we announce the passing of Ruby Robinson after a dignified and courageous battle with cancer. Ruby, much like the gemstone, was precious and one of a kind. Not only was she an adoring wife and an amazing mother she was also a loving sister, aunt and most of all, our best friend. Ruby, age 53, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by family and much love.
She was born in North Sydney on March 20, 1961 and was the daughter of the late Clarence and Joyce (Slade) Brown. Ruby is survived by her husband of 29 years, Brian and their only son and child, their pride and joy, Corey. Also surviving are her siblings Ralph (Valerie) Brown, Linda (Michael) Dolomont, Diane Brown (Carl Herritt) and Clarence "Uncle" Brown, her mother and father-in-law, Joe and Karen Robinson. The boys in her life that she always called her "other sons"; her son in law William Musgrave and close friend James Brennan. Her brothers and sisters-in-law Kevin (Nancy) Robinson, Clinton (Jackie Tobin) Robinson, her step-father Major (Ruth) Slade along with his children and their families and also her nieces and nephews David Perry, Marie Cashin, Michael Dolomont, Stephanie Robinson, Jennifer MacLennan, Jason and Stacey Tobin and their respective families.
Ruby will be deeply missed by all of her family, her countless friends, best friends and everyone who was by her side throughout this difficult journey. Ruby was an incredibly fierce woman with the kindest, loving soul you could ever meet. Known for putting others before herself, helping those in need and for telling it like it was. It was the small and simple things in life that made her the happiest like going for long scenic drives with Brian to enjoy the world’s beauty, spending time with her "boys", playing cards with the girls and spending summer days at the beach. She looked forward to her trip to Cuba each year, where she brought toys for children and clothes for women, making many friends which whom she always kept in touch with. For years Ruby worked as a labourer at Clearwater and Magna in North Sydney and later with Local 92 in Fort McMurray where she made many special and life long friends. She will forever be missed and will always be in the hearts and minds of those who have had the pleasure of meeting this treasure of a lady.
We would like to thank the nurses at the Northside General Hospital for their care and compassion as well as the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and Palliative Care and to her sister Diane, who was by her side each and every night during her hospital stay.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service for Ruby will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
