NEW GLASGOW – M. Irene Watson, 81, East River Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Foxbrook Road, Westville, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Stormont, Guysborough Co., she was a daughter of the late George Johnston and Mamie Kathleen (Hodgson) Walsh. In earlier years, Irene was employed with Maritime Tel & Tel, Trenton Works, Eastern Wood Workers and Aberdeen Hospital as a switchboard operator. Irene was a faithful member of Calvary Temple Church (The Life Center), New Glasgow where she had served as organist and Sunday School superintendent. She also served as president of Women’s Ministries and was a member of the Golden Heirs Club. Irene lovingly served her Lord alongside her late husband, Neil for many years. She faithfully read her Bible and prayed every day. Her Christian example will continue to have a profound impact on her family and friends. Irene enjoyed knitting, crocheting, handcrafting quilts, puzzles and above all, spending time with her loved ones.
Surviving are sons, Daniel Watson, Stellarton; Dale (Brenda) Watson, Valley; daughters, Virginia (Rev. Tim) Hunt, Windsor, Ont.; Ellen Watson, Stellarton; grandchildren, Scott, Ryan (Kim), Faye (Brian), Cheryl (Jon), Billie, Amanda, Amy, Emily and Adrian; great-grandchildren, Yohanna, Jonah, Tyler and Ava; brother, Blois (Eileen) Walsh, Stormont; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, L. Neil Watson; brother, Huntley Walsh; sister, June Mitton; granddaughter, Darlene Watson in infancy.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3rd in the chapel with Rev. Keith Hazzard officiating. Interment will be in Gladstone Cemetery, Four Mile Brook.
