John Barry

BARRY, JOHN FREDERICK - 1933 - 2014 - The death of John F. Barry occurred Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at The Moncton Hospital. John formerly resided at Cameron Arms, having lived there for eight years. He was born in Melrose and was the only son of Frank and Janette (Vickers) Barry. Following graduation from Port Elgin High School, he moved to Moncton with his parents and commenced his working career with Blue Cross in 1954. He subsequently moved to Saint John, where he worked with C.P.R. for three years. Upon returning to Moncton in 1960, John spent the next ten years with Mutual Life Assurance and was recognized as a well-respected Insurance Agent. He continued with his desire to meet people and travel the highways. He became a Manufacturer’s Agent with five companies carrying sixteen product lines. He travelled the Maritime Provinces and was well received and respected by all his clients for honesty and integrity. John retired at the age of 60, but travel was in his blood. He drove across all of the U.S. States and every Province in Canada with the exception of Alaska and the NWT. This travel was all done solo and he boasted that he never had a single accident in his 62 years of driving. John was an avid reader and frequently made trips to the Public Library. During his travel to the U.S. and across Canada, his camera was always at his side. His two bookcases in his apartment contained numerous travel books and guides, along with sixteen photo albums recording his many adventures. He very much enjoyed his summers at his riverside cottage at Shediac Bridge and the friendship of his nearby neighbors. Because of his quiet and gentle ways, John easily made friends with young people. The Esson children, as they grew, adopted John as one of their family and he frequently was invited to their birthday, anniversary and Christmas parties. He will be missed and remembered for his sincerity and honesty.
