LYLE THOMPSON
June 6, 1925 – March 29, 2014
It is with great sadness that our family announces the sudden but peaceful passing of our dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, who has gone to join (to be with) his beloved wife Betty of 63 years. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Debbie Veitch (Grant), Dianne James (Carey); grandchildren Shane James, Tara Yanyk (Steve), Clint Veitch (Barb) and Josh James (Carissa); and great-grandchildren Ali Yanyk, Nora Veitch and Thompson Yank; sisters-in-law Florence Anderson, Marg Benallack and Nettie Buist; many nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his father Kelly Thompson, mother-in-law Agnes and sister Myrtle Hunter. Lyle was born on a farm in the Tuxford area. He attended Coyote Run and Clinton Schools while living and helping on his grandparent’s (Oscar and Mary Thompson) farm. In 1943 Lyle joined the R.C.A.F. and served until 1945. After the war Lyle returned to Moose Jaw where he met the love of his life, Betty, at a dance. They were married in 1948 and had two daughters. Lyle and Betty lived in Tuxford for 49 years where they raised their family. Lyle was very involved in community activities, was a steward in the United Church, served on town council in Tuxford, was an avid curler and a member of the Elks for 41 years. Over the years Lyle had many jobs to provide for his family. He drove a produce truck, farmed, delivered oil for B.A., delivered farm equipment for Case, grain buyer for Ogilvie and then the Pioneer Grain Company for 26 years. Lyle enjoyed the outdoors throughout his life and was always happy when hunting, fishing and camping. Family was very important to Lyle and he was happiest when surrounded by his family, especially if hunting, fishing or camping with them. Lyle and Betty moved to Moose Jaw in 2001. They were dedicated viewing fans of professional baseball and curling. Although lonely without Betty, Lyle continued to live life to the fullest living with Dianne and Carey in Warman and at their cabin. Until his passing he was still an avid fisherman, riding his quad, and recently holidayed in Hawaii. Lyle was an easy-going, fun loving man who was supportive and loved his family dearly. Lyle’s family has many wonderful memories of time spent together which they will hold close to their hearts forever. A Visitation will be held Saturday April 5, 2014 at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw, SK from 11:00AM to Noon. The Funeral Service will take place at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday April 5, 2014 at 2:00PM. Reverend Bob Langdon will officiate. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. For those so wishing memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 279 Third Ave. N., Saskatoon, S7K 2H8.
