OLSEN, Frances Marie (October 24, 1927-March 30, 2014) Frances Olsen (nee Chisholm) died peacefully on March 30, 2014, in Glengarry Memorial Hospital, Alexandria, Ont. Born in Lochiel, Glengarry County, Frances was the daughter of Angus and Margaret Chisholm, the granddaughter of V.G. and Catherine Chisholm, and the middle of the “Five Chisholm Girls.” In her early 20s, Frances moved to Toronto, where she met Robert (Bob) Olsen and married him in 1955. They had six children: Catherine (John) Singer, Surrey, B.C.; Eric (Jackie), Waverley, N.S.; Janet (Rick Emery), Bonnyville, Alta.; Michael (Maureen Tsai), Kanata, Ont.; Anne (Dwane) Munroe, Westville, N.S.; and Kristen, Vancouver, B.C. They lived in many communities in southern Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Alberta, before retiring in Alexandria, Ont., in 1995. Besides her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Bob, and her adoring children, Frances is survived by 10 wonderful grandchildren (Alexandra, Madisen, Nathan, Michaela, Robert, Matthew, Anastasia, Kristen, Margaret, and Alexander); a sister (Lucy Theoret, Alexandria, Ont.); and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters (Helen Perry, Catherine Masterson and Angela Morrison) and one granddaughter (Angel). Frances was an excellent wife, mother and friend. She had a droll sense of humour and was kind, forgiving, patient, wise and a fount of wonderful advice on innumerable occasions. She is fondly remembered and profoundly missed. A funeral mass for Frances was held at St. Finnan’s Cathedral, Alexandria, Ont., on Thursday, April 3, at 11 a.m. At Frances’s request, there was no visitation. Cremation followed, with interment in the spring. Donations may be made in Frances’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
