September 24, 1940 - March 29, 2014. Gord died peacefully, as he had lived his life, surrounded by music, love and family. Beloved husband of Jenny for 50 years; cherished father of Paula, Gord (Crystal), Shauna, John, and Gerard (Leah); loving Poppy of Jordan, Taylor, Jacob, Cody and Mackenzie. Survived by sister Ethel (the late Neil Robinson) and brothers Cyril (Ann), Dermot (Betty), Russell (Heidi) and Patrick (Ina). Predeceased by parents Cyril and Lorraine (nee Lake), sisters Mary, Dorothy and Lorraine, and brothers James, Thomas, Brian, Kevin (Betty), Aubrey (Mary), and Eugene. Gord will be dearly missed by many relatives and friends. Born in Merasheen, Newfoundland, Gord grew up in Jersey Side, and graduated from Memorial University. He taught for 39 years total, three years in Jersey Side before he married Jenny and moved to Arvida (Jonquiere) Quebec where he retired from St. Patrick High School (later Riverside Regional High), and moved to Ottawa in 2004. Gord was a special person, his children's biggest fan, close to his wife and children, his brothers and sisters, Jenny's brothers and sisters, and his many friends. Teaching math was his passion, fishing his relaxation. A firm believer in education, he never stopped going to school, earning three degrees and two certificates (UQAC) and even after retirement, continuing to help students online. He also organized graduations and science fairs, and coached debating teams. Mass will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, 1940 Saunderson Drive, Ottawa, on April 5 at 11a.m. with burial in Newfoundland in the summer. Donations can be made to cancer research. Special thanks to all those who took care of Gord and who visited him in his last days.
