Frank Chezenko, of Sydney Forks, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Alec and Genevieve 'Jessie' (Filek) Chezenko.
Frank was a veteran of the Second World War, serving from 1942-1946. He was employed as a welder at Sydney Steel, retiring after 44 years of service. An avid sports enthusiast, Frank was a talented baseball player in his younger years and an excellent bowler. He loved and appreciated scenery, was an avid gardener, as well as a “Mr. Fix It.” If anything needed to be fixed, Frank was the one to do it. He loved to help others.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Mary (Muise); children, Joseph (Nina) Chezenko, Beverley (Patrick) Power, Jon (Pam) Chezenko, Ronald (Debbie) Chezenko, Wanda Chezenko and Dawn (Charles) Wagg; brother, Gary (Elaine) Fougere; grandchildren, Sean and Stacey Power, Jaclyn and Joey Chezenko and Joe, Jessie and Sadie Chezenko; great-grandchildren, Kate and Julia Power.
Frank was predeceased by his brothers, Edmund and Fred, as well as a sister in infancy.
We would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Special thanks to Art and Sheila Amos for all their help over the years.
At Frank’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment will be held at a later date.
