It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edith Johnson, age 79, a long time resident of Leitches Creek, on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
Edith was born in North Sydney, Aug. 20, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Florence (Gilliam) Kendall. Edith was a member of St. Columba United Church in Leitches Creek and was a faithful member of the choir, before her illness. Often Edith would be found reading her Bible and following closely her ‘Daily Bread’ readings. She was a long time employee of Irving Oil, Sydney; always greeting the Irving drivers with a smile and keeping the office accounts in order.
Edith is survived by her sisters, Florence White in Sydney Mines, Mildred Archibald and Marjorie Crews in Ontario and several nieces and nephews.
Edith was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Alexander Johnson (Leitches Creek). She was also predeceased by six brothers, Freeman Kendall, Joseph Kendall, Arthur Buck Kendall, Russell Kendall, Harry Kendall and Gordon Kendall (in infancy) and also three sisters, Bertha Gertie Thornhill, Rita Archibald and Julia Kendall (in infancy).
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. John Kirkpatrick, the staff at the Northside Community Guest Home and Northside General Hospital for all their compassionate care.
Edith’s kind heart and positive outlook will be missed by all who knew her. She will be especially missed by her sisters, Florence and Marjorie; niece, Nancy (Mike) Hardy and nephew, Donald (Karin) White.
Visitation for Edith will be held Sunday, April 6, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W. J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at St. Columba United Church, Leitches Creek, with Rev. Tom Whent officiating. Interment will take place in Calvin United Church Cemetery, Upper Leitches Creek, at a later date.
Donations in Edith’s memory may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home or St. Columba United Church.
