The death occurred at the Palliative Care Unit of the Community Hospital, O'Leary, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, April 7, 2014, of Leo Bernard of Palmer Road aged 76 years. Beloved husband of Esther (nee Doucette) Bernard. He was born in Nail Pond on March 26, 1938, the son of the late Thomas C. and Theresa (Chaisson) Bernard. Dear father to Wanda (Donnie) Cudmore, Charlottetown; Gary (Kim) Bernard, Arizona; Wayne Bernard (fiancé Norma), Charlottetown; and Wendy (Jason) MacNevin, Calgary. Loving grandfather to Melanie McFarlane (Tyson), Scotch Lake, NB; Mandy Perry, Monica Perry (fiancé Mitchell), Maxine Perry, Mason Perry all of Tignish; Madicyn and Ashtyn Bernard, AZ; Sadie and Nathan MacNevin, Calgary, AB; and great-grandfather to Preston Bernard-Roe, AZ, and Hazen MacFarlane, NB. He is also survived by brothers and sisters Roger (Marlyn), Bernard; Dorothy (Clayton) Keough, Charles (Marion) Bernard; Leonard (Frances) Bernard; Russell (Etta) Bernard; Doloris (Henry) Gallant; Ralph (Linda) Bernard and a sister-in-law Elaine Bernard all of Nail Pond. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Theresa, brother Raymond, daughter-in-law Barbara and two sisters in infancy. Resting at the West Prince Funeral Home, 522 Thompson Road, Palmer Road, for visiting hours Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 1-1:30 p.m. Funeral will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, Palmer Road, where funeral mass will be celebrated by Rev. Art Pendergast at 2:30 p.m. Memorial donations to the Palliative Care Unit of Community Hospital, O'Leary, or Immaculate Conception Cemetery Fund would be greatly appreciated.
