We, the family, are saddened to announce the passing of our dear Mom and wife on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.
Mom was born on Dec. 16, 1932, in the family home in the Village of Ostrea Lake, along Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore.
She was predeceased by her parents, Captain Fulton and Florence Williams and her sister, Cynthia (Gordon) Troke.
Following the Second World War, Mom moved with her family to Sydney, where she attended Ashby School and Sydney Academy. She later attended Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S., where she studied secretarial science.
Mom is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Albert; her daughter, Catherine (Harold), East Chezzetcook; sons, Robert (Beth), Chester, John (Cindy), Timberlea, and Fulton, Timberlea. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer (Donald), Jeffrey, Emma, and Evan; her great-granddaughter, Kate; nephews, James and Donald. Mom will be greatly missed by her many loyal friends and extended family.
Throughout Mom’s life she devoted herself to her family and her Cape Breton community; she was a loving and caring mother who we will miss terribly. She was especially interested in her family history and she helped to publish the genealogy, The Williams Family of Ostrea Lake, ‘A Family of Sea Captains’. Mom enjoyed many happy retirement years with family and friends ‘Out on the Mira’. Mira was her paradise which she loved very much and was the theme of her many paintings. Mom and Dad also spent many happy vacations in Florida over the years, where they enjoyed the company of close friends and family. Mom was a lifetime member of St. Mark’s Church, Coxheath, a member of the Altar Guild, the Vincent Massey C.H. Chapter IODE, the Cape Breton Artists Association and a member of the Anglican Parish of the Resurrection, Sydney.
Arrangements are under the care of Sydney Memorial Chapel, Sydney. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 12 at The Church of Christ the King, Sydney, beginning at 2 p.m. A reception will follow immediately after the service at St. Georges Church Hall on Nepean Street in Sydney.
Donations and memorials in Mom’s honour can be made to the Red Cross, Palliative Care Sydney, or The Primates World Relief Fund.
Special thanks to the many people who provided quality care and kindness to Mom over the last several months. We would like to especially thank Dr. G. Bisson, Dr. R. Scovil, Dr. D. White, Dr. B. Forouzesh, the VON, and palliative care, Sydney and Halifax.
