Halley MacPherson

MacPHERSON, HALLEY - 1942 - 2014 - Bathurst - Halley MacPherson, 71, of Queen Elizabeth Dr., Bathurst, passed away suddenly at his residence on Monday, April 7, 2014. Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Newton and Christine Mary (Patterson) MacPherson. Halley owned and operated a pharmacy in Saint John before moving to Bathurst in 1994. Over the years, he worked as the pharmacist manager at Walmart, Sobeys, and Superstore pharmacies. He was past president of the NB Pharmaceutical Society and a past Eastern Vice President of the Canadian Pharmaceutical Association. In the 1970's he was an executive with Shoppers Drug Mart and was instrumental in establishing Shoppers pharmacies in Atlantic Canada. Besides his wife, Linda (Murray) Knowles MacPherson, he is survived by his four children: Mark MacPherson (Tracy) of Quispamsis, Janice MacPherson (Keith Dunphy), Jill Oland (Patrick) and Jane McRae (Scott), all of Rothesay; nine grandchildren: Samantha, Kyra, Julia, Alec, Malcolm, Jessica, James, Marin and Ian; the mother of his children, Joanne Mawhinney of Fredericton; four step-children: Sheryl Stever (Nathan) and Holly Knowles Boucher, both of Bathurst, Erin Knowles and Shannon Newton (Andrew), both of Halifax, N.S.; three step-grandchildren: Maya, Phoenix and Jaxon; five sisters: Carol Jerusalem of Montreal, Que., Anne MacPherson of Thunder Bay, Ont., Heather Reed (Terry) of Rothesay, N.B., Isobel MacPherson and Beth MacPherson, both of Halifax, N.S. several nieces and nephews.
The body will rest on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Service will be celebrated on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 2 p.m. from First United Church, St. Patrick St., Bathurst. Donations in memory of Halley may be made to the Diabetes Association, Autism Society, Extra Mural Program, or a favorite charity.
