It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Bernard Daniel Campbell, age 79 of Second Street, Glace Bay on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Iona, he was the son of the late John Francis and Elizabeth Campbell.
Dad was a devoted father and grandfather. He lived for his girls and also took great pride in being a grandfather. He was known for his kindness, generosity and compassion for others. Dad was well known for his great sense of humour and avid devotion for Scottish music. In his earlier years, Dad was well known for playing the fiddle and stepdancing.
Dad is survived by two daughters, Bernice (Derek) with whom he resided, Vanessa (Glenn); one sister, Marie McCarron, Moncton, N.B.; one grandson, Tyler, whom he loved dearly and was very proud of and one granddaughter, Brooklyn, whom he waited patiently for her arrival into the world. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and a special niece, Deborah Campbell.
Dad was predeceased by three brothers, Leo, Andy and Stanley.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Callistus Abazie will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Columba Church, Iona followed by interment in the parish cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a reception in the parish hall.
As an expression of sympathy for Bernie, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
