Murray MacNutt

MACNUTT, MURRAY HAMILTON - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Murray Hamilton MacNutt, surrounded by his loving family, on April 11, 2014 at the Turnbull Nursing Home. Born in Saint John, NB, June 17th, 1929, Murray was the son of the late Wendell and Mae (Sutter) MacNutt. Murray is survived by Marie (Staples) MacNutt; their children; daughters Heather Russell (Tony), Cathy Dyker (Carl), Linda "Tami" Palinkas (Nick), Maribeth "Mo" MacNutt (Christopher Steeves), and Jocelyn Goguen (Dan); his sons Paul MacNutt (Angela Ghiz), and Peter MacNutt (Jo-Anne); 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a nephew and 2 nieces; and a special cousin, David Carson (Judy). Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister Doreen (Ron) Hughes. Dad graduated from Saint John High School. He began his work life for International Harvester and worked for a time in Corner Brook, NL. He worked for Battery & Electric Service (now AutoTech) first at the old Duke Street location, and later on Rothesay Avenue, retiring in 1996 after 41 years of service. Murray was well known in the neighborhood as Mr. Fix It, and when a neighbour came by to ask him how to get their car going, the solution could usually be found by applying his mechanical talents, and his trusty can of WD-40. Quiet by nature, Murray had a lifelong love of the outdoors, and took to the quieter pursuits in life, including gardening, fishing, hiking, bicycling. He enjoyed a good read, especially works of Atlantic Canadian authors. The family has many fond memories of times spent at the beach and barbecues at many of the gorgeous New Brunswick Provincial Parks (Oak Bay, Oak Point, Haggerty’s Cove, Woolastook) and the Belleisle. In retirement Murray especially enjoyed hiking, biking and skiing in Rockwood Park and the Irving Nature Park, and of course getting together with his family. We appreciate the countless hours Dad spent in driving us to the myriad activities and pursuits of a family of 7 children. We extend many thanks to Turnbull Nursing Home for the kindness and care of Dad during his time there.
