MacDOUGALL, JOHN - John William MacDougall, age 86, died at the Berkley, Green Street, Halifax on April 11, 2014. John was born in Halifax on August 5, 1926 to the late William D. and Annie M.S. (Morrison) MacDougall. He graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School in 1944 and from Dalhousie University in 1947 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He then worked in the accounting department of the Sun Life Insurance Co, in Montreal and returned to Halifax in 1948 to study for his C.A. designation, which he obtained in 1951, with the firm Archibald and Gurnham. In 1952 John moved to Edmundston, N.B. where he worked for Fraser Companies Ltd. in the internal audit department before moving to the taxation department dealing with Canadian and U.S. income and sales tax matters. He retired in 1990 as Taxation Manager and relocated to Halifax in 1991. John rejoined St. Andrew’s United Church where he was involved with several financial positions. John is survived by his sister, Sally Burns, Lower Sackville; nephews Kevin A. Burns, Truro, Lindsay S. (Tricia), Eastern Passage and Scott G., Toronto; three grand-nieces; two grand-nephews; two great-grand-nieces; four great-grand-nephews and two cousins.
In accordance with John’s wishes cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Homes, Lower Sackville and a burial will take place at a later date in a family graveside service in the family plot in Camp Hill Cemetery, Halifax.
