WITHEY, E. GEORGE - With sadness the family announces the sudden passing of E. George Withey at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on April 12, 2014. George was born in Toronto on February 28, 1922. He was the son of the late Henry and Violet Withey (Crowe) and husband of 67 years to the late Ethel Abbott. George is survived by two daughters; Karen (Gerald) Mooney of Wirral, NB and Kathy (John) Tidswell of Burtts Corner, four grandchildren; Jerry (Stephanie) Mooney, Alana (Greg) Simpson, Lisa Tidswell, Tristan (Erin Code) Tidswell, two great-grandchildren; Brandon And Josh Simpson, four nieces and two brothers-in-law. George was also predeceased by one brother Henry and a sister Violet. George came to the Maritimes in 1942 with the Navy and became a confirmed Maritimer. He met his future wife and the love of his life, Ethel, in the Naval office in Saint John. During the war he worked for the Naval Control of Shipping in Saint John, NB and Esquimault, BC. Dad loved each of his careers, which after the navy included running the corner store in Welsford with his wife and father-in-law, working as a salesman for Willette Fruit in Saint John and being a Game Warden with DNR next to his home in Welsford. George belonged to the Legion Branch 87 and was Sergeant of Arms for many years. He also collected for the Poppy Campaign and really enjoyed meeting his "Poppy People" each year. He was a member of the United Church in Welsford and he was very proud to be a Boy Scout Leader. George lived in Welsford for 70 years, having spent the last couple of winters at Windsor Court Retirement Residence in Fredericton. He had become a permanent resident of Windsor Court just one week prior to his death. George's parting remark to everyone was "Keep Smiling" and he will be remembered for his smile, love of life and positive attitude. George loved his family deeply and enjoyed many happy occasions. Thank you to the Staff of Windsor Court for all your kindness.
