STELLARTON – Arthur James Eaton, age 92 of North Foord Street, Stellarton, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital with his family by his side.
Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Arthur and Frances (Williamson) Eaton.
Art lived most of his life in Stellarton. During his working years he worked 45 years underground at various Pictou County mines. He was a member of Christ Anglican Church and the IOOF Lodge. Art was a veteran of WWII and a member of Br. #28 Royal Canadian Legion, Stellarton. He had a passion for both fishing and hunting. Art was known as being an electrical handyman for many Pictou County households.
Surviving are his daughter, Joyce Eaton (Wayne Jordan), Stellarton; special family friend, Mary Lemaire, Stellarton; a sister Freda (Robert) Coady, Stellarton; a brother John “Sonny” Eaton, New Glasgow; a number of nieces and nephews.
Art was predeceased by his wife the former June MacKenzie; a grandson D. Jay MacIntosh; a brother Robert Eaton Sr.; sisters: Elsie Kennedy, Margaret Clyburne, Vera MacDonald and Hilda Thompson.
His remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton, for visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Christ Anglican Church with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating. Burial will be in Christ Church Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Art may be made to Christ Anglican Church ACW, the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital or to the Pictou County SPCA.
A reception will follow the service in Christ Church hall.
The family would like to thank Dr. Farrell, Dr. Ibrahim and the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit for the care given to Art and his family while he was a patient there.
