W. Alexander "Sandy" Pert

PERT, W. ALEXANDER "SANDY" - After a brief illness, Sandy passed away on April 13, 2014 surrounded by family and dear friends. Born in Woodstock, NB in 1941, Sandy moved to Fredericton in 1955 and other than the one year while he was in the RCAF, he lived his life in Fredericton. He graduated from Fredericton High class of ‘59 and University of New Brunswick class of ‘63. Sandy is survived by his wife Lorna (Reid), son Reid Pert (Faye Richardson), daughter Heather Pert, grandson Alexander Pert, brothers Donald Pert (Veeta Brown), David Pert, John Pert (Rhoda Haug) (Parksville, BC), sister Margaret Critchlow (Ron), mother-in-law Glaidus Clark, sister-in-law Janice Brewer (Stewart MacDougall) (Edmonton, AB), several nieces and a nephew and our very special extended family, Scott and Melanie Amos. The majority of Sandy’s career was with the NB Provincial Government in various departments with a long tenure at Department of Natural Resources and later retiring from Geographic Information Corporation in 1996. Sandy was an avid fly fisherman whose pursuits took him mainly to the Dungarvon, Renous, Restigouche, Upsalquitch, and Lower North Branch of the Miramichi. He also cherished snowmobiling with good friends in the Dungarvon area and the camaraderie a good “cookout” could bring. In recent years, Sandy enjoyed the weekly Friday coffee meeting with the guys at Tim’s solving all the world’s problems. We trust the regular group will continue the fine work of this self-proclaimed think-tank. Sandy was best known for his sense of humour, turn of phrase, entertaining stories, and ever inviting nature. He leaves behind a loving family and dear friends both old and new. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the exceptional team at the Saint John Regional Oncology Department (5AS), Dr. Debbie Gowan and the Palliative Care Team at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and a special thank you to family physician Dr. Nicholas Keschtkar.
In keeping with Sandy’s personality, humour, love good times and good story telling, a celebration of life event will be held at a later date. A notice will be posted in the paper and circulated through friends. Arrangements will be made through York Funeral Home. Committal will be held at Forrest Hill Cemetery at a later date. The family asks in lieu of flowers please make donations to the Chalmers Palliative Care Unit, the Saint John Regional Stem Cell Program, or the Fredericton SPCA. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
