Tom Durrant

Tom passed away peacefully at Pioneers Lodge on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Shirley for over 56 years, and cherished father of Joanne, loving father-in-law to Diane Loos and family, Tom will also be missed by his sister Elda Truitt, brothers-in-law Bill (Laurie) Langford, Errol (Sandy) Langford, and John (Sharleen) Langford, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his son Bruce in 1983. Tom was born on November 27, 1932 to John and Violet Durrant in Moose Jaw, SK. He was raised on the family farm 9 miles north of Moose Jaw and attended Carmel Country School and later high school in Moose Jaw. He became an electrician and worked for Smith Electric. He later worked as a grain buyer at United Grain Growers in Belle Plaine and Moose Jaw. Tom liked to farm and he was often found helping others on their farms. He retired in his early 70’s, but moved into Moose Jaw in 2001. He played in many bands starting with Mrs. Garner’s Bellbeck Hillbillies, The Mortlach Fiddlers, The Kiwanistones, and Andy’s Combo. He loved to play at the many care and retirement homes in Moose Jaw, and always had a smile and a warm greeting for friends. A Memorial Tea Service will be held at Parkview Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. A private graveside service for close family and relatives will precede the memorial tea. In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Tom to the Moose Jaw Humane Society, 1755 Stadacona St W, Moose Jaw, SK, S6H 7K7, would be appreciated.
