James “Jim” A. S. MacLean, 54, of Cornwall, P.E.I., passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Jim was born in Summerside, P.E.I., and was the son of the late William “Reginald” and Julia E. (MacDonald) MacLean. Jim spent his first 17 years raising hell in Borden, P.E.I.. After this time, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served proudly for 32 years across Canada and Europe, reaching the rank of Warrant Officer. After retirement, he continued his devotion for the Canadian Armed Forces working for the Department of Veteran Affairs. Anyone who knew Jim realized chocolate chip cookies, homemade bread and a bottle of Crown Royal would not last long in his presence. Jim loved to recall his time in CFB Alert, where he manned a radio show and spun his favourite classic rock; The Rolling Stones, Queen and Led Zeppelin. He also loved to recant his time in Europe, where he ensured his first meal in every major city was the best Chinese food he could find. He was a lover of classic horror films, and a devoted fan of hockey, golf and curling. Jim always had a thirst for knowledge, and took every opportunity to learn all he could about the world around him. These memories and that love of knowledge are the most cherished greatest gifts he has left his children. Jim will be sadly missed by his children, Mandy Elizabeth MacLean of Toronto, ON and Eric James MacLean of Nanaimo, BC; and their mother, Marsha MacLean of Oromocto; brothers, Ralph, Brent, William “Bill”, Shane, Kenneth “Kenny” and Daniel “Danny” MacLean; sisters, Laverne Perry, Rose Thompson and Tracey MacLean; his many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Jim’s family would like to pass along special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital Cardiology Unit, Doctor Julie Johnston of Summerside, P.E.I., and his colleagues and friends at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, Charlottetown. A memorial visitation for Jim will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2014, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the George R. Pearkes V.C. Royal Canadian Legion Branch #5 Summerside, PE.
